On the banks of the Douro, little Teresinha is breaking hearts, in particular Carlitos’, a clumsy dreamer, and Eduardo’s, a rebellious tough guy who are rivals in the great game of life. “Aniki bóbó”: is the spell cast at the start of the film, Manoel de Oliveira’s first feature. Two enigmatic words that take us deep into the heart of a world of dreams, adventures and struggles – scenes of a drama that could just as well be played out by adults.
