Andrés Bonifacio de Castro is the ultimate hero in Filipino history. He played a crucial part in the fight for independence against Spanish colonists at the end of the 19th century. Lav Diaz revisits history like a myth, and as usual he tries to summon the ghosts of the past, this time through the characters of the hero’s wife and one of his comrades in arms, and through all the twists and turns of a tortuous story.
