ZIGGY STARDUST AND THE SPIDERS FROM MARS

On July 3rd 1973 at the London Hammersmith Odeon, David Bowie announced he would quit the stage after a tour which had kicked off more than a year before, The Ziggy Stardust Tour. A few days before the Apollo 11 mission, which were to coincide with the first steps on the moon, the release of the Space Oddity album had ushered in this character from Mars, as a space clone to Lou Reed and Iggy Pop. The concert-film by D. A. Pennebaker is in line with his previous ones about Bob Dylan and Jimi Hendrix in Monterey. An immersion into pre-Punk-Glam. (GG)
