Robert Bober, now 85, delivers a double portrait that combines the story of his great-grandfather with that of the brilliant Jewish intelligentsia of the turn of the twentieth century. He evokes the fall of the Habsburg Empire, the birth and rise of National-Socialism and the years leading up to the Anschluss, which ended Vienna’s status as Europe’s cultural capital. (VP)
