BROTHERS OF THE NIGHT / BRÜDER DER NACHT

Patric Chiha

Clearly inspired by Fassbinder’s aesthetics (the lighting and costumes from Querelle are quoted in the opening), Patric Chiha’s Brothers of The Night depicts the complexities of the lives of a group of Gypsy Bulgarian boys who sell their bodies in a nightclub in Vienna. The focus is not so much on the grim everyday reality of sex work, as on the theatricality and fables that are traded between clients and prostitutes. There is a lot of talking going on – to ward off bad luck or perpetuate good luck, to dream and to show off. (VP)
