Author of four unfinished films, Seong-jung retires to the provinces to draw a line under a painful relationship. With only the best intentions, he pays a brief visit to a friend in Seoul, where his resolve crumbles. After inviting some students for a drink, he turns up at his ex-girlfriend’s like a soul in pain, only to leave her again in a state of self-righteousness in the early hours of the morning. Exhausting his ideas like one shuffles a deck of cards, repetition and variation leave Seong-jung not knowing which way to turn. (AT)Hong Sang-soo
