Alain Mazars
The title says it all: the future articulated through the past. Filmed in 16mm, against the backdrop of ruins in brilliant light, a little mute boy and a little girl who doesn’t say much more are the protagonists in this truly beautiful cinematic ritornello. An adult joins them – an unnerving figure whose nature is unclear to us. Primitive cinema is clearly the blueprint here and each shot is imbued with its force: abstraction, stark contrasts, repetitions and a succinct narrative. A mesmerising, labyrinthine experience, which returns faithfully to a kind of cinema that vindicates mystery and to which Alain Mazars invites us with conviction.
