What is left of Ilia Zdanevitch known as Iliazd today? The anachronistic and fanciful attempt to inventory the traces left by this Russian-born artist (Tbilissi 1894 – Paris 1975), stateless by choice, through his archives —preserved in Marseille, in the library of Saint-Petersburg, in the halls of collectors and reserves of major international museums— explores an abundant body of work surprisingly diverse. Alternately poet, publisher, futuristic, geographer, surveyor, astrologer, philologist, ethnologist, designer fabrics and talents hunter, the story and the posterity of Iliazd are changing as time passes and as times change. Through this cinematic investigation —in a Russian doll style— time twists and Iliazd’s archives reveal a variety of effigies of man who embodied a diversity of characters inviting us to a puzzling imaginary journey.Stanislav DOROCHENKOV
