UN JOUR AVEC, UN JOUR SANS

Slight variations: that is the formula by which Hong Sang-soo differentiates similar past experiences, the double structure of this film which earned him a Golden Leopard award at Locarno international film festival. Here, two versions of a meeting between a filmmaker and a painter, which constitute neither two diverging views (as in The Virgin), nor two levels of fiction (as in Tales of Cinema), but two possible versions of a single event. In the same way that the actors saw the first segment before filming the second, the spectator discovers it with heightened attention. (AT)
