ZORN I

When an artist, Mathieu Amalric, films another artist, American music genius John Zorn, a saxophonist, clarinetist and composer in a class of his own, with a wide, free and generous career.
Actor and director Matthieu Amalric met John Zorn in 2009, when he was a narrator at the French premiere of Zorn’s Shir Hashirim (the Song of Songs) at the Grande Halle de La Villette in Paris. When Arte network commissioned Amalric to make a portrait, he started filming his new friend in New York. Soon they forgot about the commission, but kept filming every time they met, with no other purpose than to capture the moment. An eternal work in progress.
