LA BUISSONNIÈRE

Jean-Baptiste ALAZARD

Two young men criss-cross the French countryside in a car during the summer. In search of an ideal, they take us here and there (a poppy field at night, a boozy village party, a pizza van, a beach, a family meal, and so on) without describing a defined geography, and without constructing a semblance of certainty. In fact they are a pretext for Jean-Baptiste Alazard’s camera, in this first virtuoso feature, to also take the path of the école buissonnière of the cinema. These students of outdoor life become the motive and cause of a journey that is primarily an exploration of the possibilities of the production of images when freed from narrative imperatives, psychological punishments and the constraints of location finding. Here, the thirst for filming is evident, and for getting on, taking advantage of light and shade, lines suggested by everything in sight. (JPR)
