UNE LONGUE DISTANCE, WORK IN PROGRESS

Guillaume Lillo

As part of the partnership between Casa de Velázquez in Madrid and FIDMarseille, a special screening will be devoted to the filmmaker Guillaume Lillo.
We organise work-in-progress session and discussion around his project Une longue distance, his first feature film after the acclaimed Perchés (FIDMarseille 2021).

Composed of pre-existing images (travel films, home movies, archive footage) and specifically shot footage, combining the practice of found footage with traditional filming, this trained editor ventures down a number of singular paths. Une longue distance tells the story of a struggle for survival with supernatural overtones, in which inner demons become the main character’s travelling companions on a cruise along the Spanish coast.

By weaving links between characters and eras, the real and the beyond, the film will evoke the question of mourning and heritage in the context of a world prone to disenchantment. Drawing on his own personal story, Guillaume Lillo widens the focal point to broader social questioning of unemployment, excesses of consumer society and excesses of an intractable system. Using fragments and collages, this film project aims to reconstruct a shared history by portraying a romantic and militant past, ultimately leading us to question our present from an angle that is both sensitive and political.
