Inspired by the case of Julian Assange, East of Any Place follows twelve-year-old Wei, who grows up in an embassy, where her mother, Lin Hale, has sought political asylum as a whistleblower. As the embassy staff become a second family to Wei, she discovers belonging in a world where borders blur and identities begin to dissolve.
