Who are we?
FIDMarseille
FIDMarseille is an international film festival held each year at the beginning of summer in the heart of Marseille. Its programme features numerous world and international premieres, showcasing around a hundred films - fiction and documentary, artist films, short and feature-length. Attuned to singular voices and emerging forms, FID is a key festival for independent cinema, internationally recognized for its vital role in uncovering new talents and pioneering cinematic discoveries.

FID 36
For its 36th edition, the FID has decided to change its visual identity, imagining a graphic variation starting out from image in motion. With 6 announcements, Pierre Creton, a filmmaker well-known by FID audiences, will inaugurate this new momentum and give its tone to this new edition. All of our communication material, from the poster to the website, is based on this new piece of work specially created for the festival. We warmly thank Pierre for sharing new beauty, and designer Manon Bruet for her brilliant graphic creation work.
We are particularly happy to share with you the programme of this year’s FIDMarseille. The official selection gathers 75 films from 42 countries, 58 of which are World Premieres. Among those, 51 films make up the 5 competitions. The Other Gems selection features an out-of-competition programme of some twenty films, including restored classics and little-known gemstones, as well as outstanding films from the current cinema scene that we hope to bring to the public’s attention.
Trained in post-communist/neo-capitalist Romania, Radu Jude, from his first feature The Happiest Girl in the World (2009) to Kontinental ‘25 (2025), has been directing unique works with his explosive and corrosive inventiveness. He is invited by the 36th edition for an unprecedented retrospective of 17 films: from the widely celebrated Bad Luck Banging or Loony Porn (Golden Bear at the 2021 Berlinale) to the unreleased A Film for Friends (2011), by way of a large selection of essays and shorts. Radu Jude gives us the honour of being present for the entire duration of the festival. At his side, Chilean filmmaker duo Carolina Adriazola and José Luis Sepúlveda will accompany their first retrospective in Europe. Their cinema of margins and minorities, committed and uncategorisable, will be one of the great discoveries of this edition.
In 2024, we were the first festival to open its doors to Some strings, an initiative gathering filmic gestures in support of Palestine. The first films had been exhibited in a gallery, some shown in cinemas. This year, all of the films directed by over 100 artists and filmmakers from different geographical territories will be shown in cinemas, at a rate of one programme a day.
Five special screenings will highlight our collaboration with our valued partners: the Région Sud, the Casa de Velázquez in Madrid, the European network Doc Alliance, as well as, for the first time this year, the Pierre Barbizet Conservatoire, and the [mac] - Marseille contemporary art museum. The latter offers a showing in response to the Les Veilleurs exhibition by Lebanese artist and filmmaker Ali Cherri.
The programme for young audiences was developed in collaboration with the Łódź Film School in Poland. This screening was elaborated for all generations and will be shown at the Bibliothèque l’Alcazar, with free entry.
For the first time this year, the FID will travel to the region, to Arles and Avignon. In collaboration with the Avignon Festival, we jointly invite the great Portuguese filmmaker Pedro Costa for a screening-meeting at the Collection Lambert. In Arles, Radu Jude will present one of his films at Le Méjan cinema, as part of their programme in relation to the Rencontres d’Arles.
We would like to thank the producers and directors who have entrusted us with their films, as well as the jurors who honour us with their presence.
And our heartfelt thanks go to our partners, without whose support and confidence FIDMarseille would not be possible.
We wish you a rich and wonderful 36th edition!
