Following the 34th edition of FIDMarseille (July 2023), the festival’s Board has renewed its confidence in Tsveta Dobreva, Director since April 2022, for the coming editions. Cyril Neyrat, who held the position of Artistic Coordinator for the last two editions, becomes Artistic Director of FIDMarseille.
Together, they are responsible for the development of FIDMarseille.
Caroline Champetier, a member of the Board of Directors, has been appointed Vice-President of the association.
Cyril Neyrat has worked as a critic for Cahiers du cinéma and Vertigo. He has taught cinema at Paris 3, Paris 7 and HEAD-Geneva, and continues to lecture at several art and film schools. In addition to numerous articles and critical essays published in catalogs and collective works, he is the author of books based on long conversations with filmmakers (Pedro Costa, Jean-Claude Rousseau, Albert Serra, Pierre Creton). He is also associate editor of Éditions de l’œil (among others, Pedro Costa. Matériaux, with Luc Chessel (ed.), 2022). He was a resident at the Académie de France in Rome (Villa Médicis) in 2009-2010. Between 2019 and 2023, he worked in a home for autistic adults. A member of the FIDMarseille selection committee (2006-2009, and since 2019), he was Artistic Coordinator of the festival in 2022 and 2023.
As Artistic Director, he will continue to work closely with the other five members of the Selection Committee: Marco Cippolini, Nicolas Feodoroff, Claire Lasolle, Louise Martin Papasian and Olivier Pierre.
Tsveta Dobreva studied cinema, management and cultural project management in Germany (Bochum) and France (Paris and Montpellier). In Germany, she worked for the European Capital of Culture RUHR.2010, among others, before joining the Goethe-Institut in Paris in 2014, where she was responsible for European and international projects. Between 2015 and 2018, she was Deputy Director and Head of Programming at the Goethe-Institut in Marseille. In December 2018, she joined the FIDMarseille team as General Secretary and the FIDLab selection committee. In April 2022, she was appointed Director of FIDMarseille.
FIDMarseille is also delighted to announce the appointment of Caroline Champetier as Vice-President of the association, of which she has been a member of the Board of Directors since 2014.
Working alongside filmmakers for over forty years (including Chantal Akerman, Jean-Luc Godard, Leos Carax, Claude Lanzmann, Jacques Doillon, Nobuhiro Suwa, Xavier Beauvois, Arnaud Desplechin, Anne Fontaine, Patricia Mazuy, most recently Wang Bing, as well as many young filmmakers), Caroline Champetier is one of the leading cinematographers in today’s cinema.
Close to the FIDMarseille team for many years, notably as an expert for the FIDCampus, she will support Tsveta Dobreva and Cyril Neyrat in the development of the festival.
