Palestine Cinema Days

The 10th edition of the annual “Palestine Cinema Days” festival was to take place from October 24 to November 2 in Palestine in several cities in the West Bank and Gaza. It is canceled. In order to raise the voice of the Palestinians loud and clear, to create spaces where their experiences and their stories can be seen and heard, the Aflamuna association (support platform for Arab cinema since 1999) and the Palestine film Lab invites all civil society actors and organizations, wherever they are, to symbolically welcome this event by organizing an event on November 2, 2023 at 8:00 p.m. FIDMarseille responds to this request with the screening of a film by Raed Andoni.

Programme

GHOST HUNTING

Raed Andoni

France, Palestine / 2017 / 94'

In order to confront the ghosts that haunt him, Palestinian director Raed Andoni organizes a casting for actors and construction workers. Just like him, they all have been detained at some point at Al-Moskobiya, Israel’s main interrogation centre. Together, they recreate the detention facility, where former prisoners get to re-enact interrogations and confinement. For the sake of the project, they all play in turns a persecutor or a victim, in a cathartic process at once disturbing and moving.

Born in 1967 in the West Bank, Raed Andoni is a self-taught director, who has taken part in the development of independent cinema in Palestine since 1997, when he founded his production company, DAR Films, in Ramallah. Through DAR, he produced and coproduced several award-winning documentaries, such as The Inner Tour, Live from Palestine or Invasion. He co-founded the Paris-based production company Les Films de Zayna. Raed Andoni won the Scam Award for the Best Audiovisual Work for Fix Me in 2012 (FIDMarseille 2014).
