To most, Barbara refers to a slender, dark-haired French singer. To many also it is a recent and quite memorable film. But to Mathieu Amalric, there is another Barbara, who is blonde and who has a famous voice to Simon Rattle, Pierre Boulez or Pascal Dusapin. This Barbara is a musical conductor as well: Barbara Hannigan. Amalric has filmed this second Barbara conducting the Lulu Suite by Alban Berg, in First Rehearsals. In Third Scene, he shoots the very origin of singing, getting ever closer to this body whence breathing gives birth to notes.
