CINÉFID x ARTISTS IN EXILE WORKSHOP #5

One hour with… : 1 film and 1 debate

The “One Hour With…” programme run by the Goethe-Institut offers an opportunity to engage in discussion with figures from the worlds of culture, science, and society. This new series of events brings together people from Germany, France, and across Europe around shared themes. FIDMarseille is partnering with two events in this programme: a film screening and a debate.

Following the death of the coach of a professional football club, events come to a head and the world seems to fall apart around the team. Latent sadness, orderly crisis, slow-motion fall.

Debate: Is football a work of art?
Artistic creation between sporting practice and social perspective

Football: for some, a secondary concern; for others, a true passion. Yet football is also a space for social negotiation, solidarity, and empowerment. Yaël Kempf and Amin Motallebzadeh share their artistic and personal approaches to the sport. The lyrical and spiritual tones of Conference of the Birds by Motallebzadeh intertwine here with the lived experiences of Kempf within a women’s football team in Marseille.

Guest artists

Yaël Kempf

Marseille-based artist and video maker Yaël Kempf graduated from La Cambre in Brussels (2016) and the Kunstakademie Düsseldorf (2020). She develops a practice at the intersection of film, installation, and field research. Her work explores the relationships between ecological, social, and political dynamics through immersive environments in which organic elements (algae, fungi, animals) interact with constructed forms.

Amin Motallebzadeh

German-Iranian filmmaker, visual artist and writer based in Hamburg, Germany, Amin Motallebzadeh graduated from the Hamburg University of Fine Arts, following earlier studies in medicine and theatre. His first feature film, Conference of the Birds (2025), premiered at FIDMarseille. He is currently a fellow of the Karl Schmidt-Rottluff programme.
