« Rolled up handwritten sheets », such is the meaning of the Latin etymology of the word « volume ». In other words, a book - but in its ancient form of rolls. Marie José Burki, artist, plays with this translation of the cylinder towards our huge printed tome. And she chooses, not without humor, the mind’s work par excellence, the furthest away from the concrete, volumetric character of the book: the Lalande philosophical dictionary. Slightly blurred, therefore unreadable, the pages to be turned let the volume scroll. (JPR)
