This Persian film summons up a highly poetical imagery: a papier-mâché set, clay characters, a subtle and emotional music, paper flowers and butterflies… A lone woman writes to find refuge in literature – where the power of words meets the power of dreams. As a counterpoint, a surly, taciturn and violent man goes back home. The reality is cruel. The woman is brutalised, condemned to live a life she cannot refuse, face or avoid. Until one day the dreams fully comes to life, becoming a force that transcends her and ends her torment. A film about the need for dreams in life. (FM)
