Mémé (Grandma) and Tonton (Uncle) have been watching The Young and the Restless for over 20 years. Every day at 1.30pm the living room curtains are closed, the screen lights up and the magic begins. In a sort of magical ritual, the oldest soap opera on TV becomes entangled with the lives of the two pensioners. The entire clan’s memories begin to resurface, from their uprooting in the 30s to their dreamy past in Algeria and their exile in Nice. With gentle humour, the director turns a symbol of commercial TV into a tribute to his family. (RDP)
