Out on the Street, Out on the Street

Ten workers attend an acting workshop. Through rehearsals, we get to hear dreadful stories about workplace injustice, managerial exploitation, police brutality, rigged trials. Scenes in (acting) workshops are mixed with real scenes in (factory) workshops, filmed on a cellphone by a worker and meant to be used as evidence during a trial. Jasmina Metwaly and Philip Rizk say that they chose this hybrid form to break “the limits of the documentary medium” and make these oppressed voices heard at last.
