SCÉNARIO DU FILM PASSION
Jean-Luc Godard
1982, France, 55’
‘Friends and foes, good evening. We are here to discuss the screenplay for a film, Passion, which I worked on a few months ago.’ (JLG)
JLG directs this screenplay for the film Passion for Swiss French-language television, where, mostly in silhouette and facing a bright screen, he explains the path he took to arrive at the screenplay for the film Passion.
“In fact, the idea would be to use the scenes from the blockbuster film as purely emotional close-ups, with the actual action scenes almost absent, as the characters contain themselves and keep their feelings inside (especially since it is late autumn and starting to get cold). Or as if we were seeing the moments of passion themselves, like a downpour or a gust of wind, before and after they have passed through souls and bodies, bending them in adversity or straightening them in hope. (Jean-Luc Godard, Passion, Introduction to a screenplay, in Jean-Luc Godard by Jean-Luc Godard, Éd. Cahiers du cinéma, 1985)
