THE JUNGLE BOOK PROJECT

Pierre Bismuth

We are all familiar with the adaptation of The Jungle Book by Disney studios, its anthropocentric bestiary and its songs. What language should these characters speak? This is an absurd question for Disney, cultural hegemony oblige. But Pierre Bismuth offers his own answer, which is just as arbitrary (or almost). Languages resurge. The return of the repressed in Hollywood summons up a new Babel. (NF)
