SALÉ, SUCRÉ

Ang Lee

M. Chu is Taipei’s greatest cuisine chef. Since his wife’s passing sixteen years before, he has been raising his three daughters on his own: Jen, a chemistry professor and her exacerbated religious beliefs; Kien, a seductive businesswoman caught up in the dream of conquering independence; Ning, a young student working in a fast-food joint. Such steady rituals as the meals the father so meticulously prepares regulate Chu’s family life. Closed in on himself and never having much to say, Chu can only communicate in the kitchen… (C.N.)
