This film immediately conjures up memories from art history. A character is standing still before a landscape with a river running through it. Do we have to remember Mona Lisa, Étant donnés, or Werner Herzog’s film La Bohème (screened at 2010 FID), so that the river keeps flowing? This self-evident sequence shot imposes its calm, its intensity: unchanged, it keeps reinventing itself. Shot during a time of social turmoil and strikes, L’Autre tigre is named after an installation by Jean Doroszczuk.
