Our daily environment and the public space constitute a chosen territory for artists who want to tackle society in situ. Iván Argote’s initiative is elementary: in a Paris underground train, upending all expectations, he offers money to commuters. The latter look dumbfounded, mocking or plain indifferent. This reversal, both simple and efficient, questions our place and parts in a space that isn’t that common after all. (NF)
