A schoolteacher in a village moves away during term time to follow her husband to Indonesia and is replaced by her younger brother Ta-nien, who comes from Taipei. The young man meets his new students including the mischievous “three musketeers”, Yen Cheng-kuo, Chin-shui and Lin Wen-chin. City boy Ta-nien is seduced by his colleague Chen Su-Yun, and gradually begins to enjoy his life in the country… Hou Hsiao-hsien’s third film, Green Green Grass of Home is the last in a cycle of romantic comedies that also includes Cute Girl and Cheerful Wind.
