DIÁRIOS DE OTSOGA
JOURNAL DE TÛOA

Miguel Gomes, Maureen Fazendeiro

Miguel Gomes, Maureen Fazendeiro
Turning back time… Maureen Fazendeiro and Miguel Gomes invent a new use for this fantasy. It’s an unquestionably uplifting way of filming, creating shots and living together while making a movie. Here, turning back time involves turning the disastrous experience of COVID into the invention of a paradise where, for the duration of the shoot, everyone has a place, from the actors and actresses to the Moldavian workers, the domestic staff, the technical crew, and even the animals. Narrating a lockdown diary in reverse turns reclusion into an exercise of paradoxical collective freedom, sharing insouciance and beauty. The frame woven by Gomes and Fazendeiro is like the frame of the tropical greenhouse built by the three actors, light and shimmering but closely woven enough to catch hold of the butterflies and all the ephemeral beauty that exudes from a shared life.
