L'ÉVANGILE SELON SAINT MATTHIEU
IL VANGELO SECONDO MATTEO

Pier Paolo Pasolini

  Italy / France, 1964, B&W, 35 mm, 137’

“The Gospel’s style is very varied: it combines the sacred with scenes that are almost documentary, with a quasi-classical austerity and others that are almost Gordardesque.”

Pasolini adapts ’the most revolutionary Gospel’. It is neither an illustration of the biblical text nor a Marxist adaptation. Pasolini shot the film in the Basilicata region in a studio avoiding any hieratism.

Original version : Italian. Subtitles : French. Distribution : Carlotta films.
